General Program QuestionsWhat is the Chevy Chase Rewards Program?
It is a promotional incentive program featuring Visa Extras, offered by Chevy Chase Bank to our Check Card customers. Once you have enrolled in Chevy Chase Rewards, you earn points every time you make a qualifying purchase or engage in a qualifying transaction. You can use these points to obtain merchant gift or travel certificates, gift cards, merchandise, cash and much more, referred to generally as Rewards.
Is there any cost for participating in the Chevy Chase Rewards Program?
There is no fee to participate in the Rewards Program.
Which Cards are eligible?
All Chevy Chase Check Cards in good standing are eligible to enroll in the Rewards Program.
What happens if my Card is lost or stolen?
If your Chevy Chase Check Card is lost or stolen, first call Chevy Chase Bank at 301-987-BANK or 1-800-987-Bank (out of area). After business hours (11 p.m. to
7 a.m.) please call 1-800-556-5678 or 1-800-VISA-911 to report the loss or theft. If we issue you a new Card, your Card information will be updated automatically and you will not lose the points in your Rewards account. You will continue to earn points for the qualifying purchases you make with your new replacement Card, even if that Card has a different Card number.
How do I enroll?
There are two ways to enroll in the Chevy Chase Rewards Program featuring Visa Extras. You can enroll online, or by calling 1-800-960-8472.
Why is there a $1.00 hold on my checking account?
When enrolling in Chevy Chase Rewards featuring Visa Extras, a $1.00 authorization hold will be placed on your account to verify that the account and Card are active. Once the verification is complete, the $1.00 authorization hold will be released.
Is enrolling online secure?
Your enrollment information is transmitted using a high level of encryption to protect against unauthorized access. To increase your comfort level, this page is hosted on a secure server and includes security clues such as a lock or key image at the bottom of your browser and a web address that begins with https://. We take extensive precautions to secure your enrollment information, and it is used only for the purposes of providing this service. We want you to be assured that your enrollment information is properly safeguarded.
What if I have a joint checking account?
Check Card numbers are unique for each person. If you have a joint account, each Card must be enrolled separately. Points are earned for purchases made on each Card individually and can be redeemed by that Cardholder. Points earned on one Card cannot be transferred to another Card, even if the Cards are linked to the same checking account.
I received an "error" message during enrollment. Why?
The information you provide must match the information Chevy Chase Bank has on file. Please make sure you entered your information correctly. If you cannot complete enrollment, please call us at 301-987-BANK (2265) or 1-800-987-BANK (out of area).
How can I access my Chevy Chase Rewards account information?
Once enrolled in the Rewards Program, you can access your account information by logging in to the Rewards Web site or by calling the Visa Extras automated telephone system at 1-800-960-8472, using your Card number and the password you provided at enrollment.
I forgot my Visa Extras password. What do I do?
Please contact Visa Extras support team at 1-800-960-8472.
How do I earn points?
Once you've enrolled in Chevy Chase Rewards featuring Visa Extras, you'll earn points when you use your enrolled Card to make qualifying purchases, which include:
What is a "Qualifying Purchase?"
A "Qualifying Purchase" is any signature-based purchase, Internet purchase, phone or mail order purchase, or automatic bill payment made with your enrolled Card, which is processed or submitted through the Visa U.S.A., Inc. transaction processing system. You must sign for all in-store purchases you make with your enrolled Card in order for such purchases to be deemed qualifying purchases; do not use a Personal Identification Number (PIN) when paying for your purchases with your enrolled Card if you want to earn points for such purchases. PIN-based purchases, cash advances, ATM transactions, Interlink-processed transactions, fees charged by Chevy Chase Bank (for example, ATM surcharges, PIN transaction fees, and related checking service charges, if any apply), payments made for prepaid and reloadable cards, such as certain gift cards, Visa Buxx and similar cards, or payments made for payment instruments that can readily be converted to cash (for example, travelers cheques, money orders, wire transfers, and similar products or services) are not qualifying purchases.
How many points do I earn with each qualifying purchase?
You will earn 1 point for every $1 spent. Platinum Banking Package customers earn 2 points for every $1 spent.
What are bonus points?
Bonus points make it possible for you to earn even more points when you shop at participating merchants with your enrolled Chevy Chase Check Card or for special promotions we may offer from time to time. In addition to the points you would otherwise earn, you can earn bonus points for every dollar you spend on certain qualifying purchases, or you can earn a one-time bonus for signing up for their ongoing services. These bonus points will vary based on the merchant promotional programs. After logging in, see the Merchant Bonus section to view the full list of participating merchants and click on any merchant name or logo to learn how to take advantage of these bonus offers. Bonus points can be redeemed for rewards in the same way as points you earn by making qualifying purchases.
How are bonus points different from other points?
Bonus points function the same way as earned points for redemption, forfeiture, expiration and returns.
I've noticed a discrepancy in my account transactions using my Check Card and points earned.
This may occur if some of your purchases were not qualifying purchases. Also, it may take up to two weeks for some of your points earned from certain qualifying purchases to be posted to your Rewards account. Some transactions, such as online purchases or purchases outside the U.S., may take longer to post to your Rewards account.
Can I combine points with another account?
No. Points accrue for purchases on each individual Card enrolled. Points cannot be transferred among accounts, even if the Cards are linked to the same checking account.
What happens if I return an item?
Returns, credits or chargebacks on your Chevy Chase Check Card will be posted to your Rewards account as negative points. This may cause a negative point balance in your Rewards account until you make qualifying purchases to bring your balance above zero.
Do my points ever expire?
Unredeemed points expire at the end of the 36th month (3 years) from the month in which they were posted to your Rewards account. Since you will not be provided with notice of expiration of points, you should check your Rewards account periodically to monitor your points.
Why were points in my Rewards account forfeited? How can I get them back?
You will forfeit all of your points in your Rewards account if your underlying Check Card account is closed by Chevy Chase Bank for any reason, or your participation in Rewards is terminated by you or Chevy Chase Bank for any reason. Once the points are forfeited, you cannot get them back, even if your underlying Check Card account is reinstated or you re-enroll in Chevy Chase Rewards featuring Visa Extras. You will not be provided any notice of forfeiture of points.
How quickly will points be credited to my account?
Qualifying purchases will generally be posted to your Rewards account within one to two weeks. Some transactions, such as online purchases or foreign transactions, may take longer to be posted.
How do I redeem my points?
You may redeem your Rewards points online. Redeeming points for rewards using the online service is similar to shopping online: just use points to "pay" for your reward. Just select the reward you’d like and place it in your online shopping cart, and follow the instructions to finalize your order. You also can use the telephone system to redeem your points by calling 1-800-960-8472. You will need to know the reward number (available in the online catalog) to complete your order.
When can I start redeeming points?
After you complete your enrollment, if you have enrolled online, you can start redeeming the points accrued to your Rewards account as soon as they are posted to your account. If you've enrolled by telephone, however, you must wait 25 days following enrollment before you can start redeeming points.
For what can I redeem my points?
With Visa Extras, you choose the rewards from the existing rewards catalog. From dining, merchant, and travel certificates to movie passes and more. Login and view the online catalog for more information.
What is the minimum number of points needed to redeem for a reward?
We offer a wide range of rewards, starting as low as 2,000 points. Check your current point balance against point values of rewards you're interested in. Browse the catalog for more information.
How long does it take to receive a reward?
Generally, rewards will be sent to you within four weeks of placing your Rewards order.
Can rewards be shipped to foreign countries?
No, rewards can only be shipped within the United States and to APO/FFO addresses.
Will I be charged any shipping and handling charges?
No, we do not charge shipping or handling fees for standard delivery of rewards.
Do reward certificates expire?
Expiration dates vary depending on the merchant, so please refer to the Terms & Conditions included with your certificate and in the catalog for more information.
Can I order by telephone?
Yes, you may place your order by calling 1-800-960-8472, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Saturday.
How can I cancel my participation in Chevy Chase Rewards featuring Visa Extras?
You can cancel your participation at any time online by first logging into your account, clicking on My Visa Extras Account, and selecting Opt Out from the list of options. You can also cancel by calling 1-800-960-8472.
What happens to my point balance when I cancel my program participation?
You forfeit your points, your point balance becomes zero, and you will no longer be earning points with your Check Card. Any current negative point balance does not get reset to zero by canceling your program participation or opting out.
Can I re-enroll in Rewards after I have cancelled my participation?
Yes, you may re-enroll at any time. The points you forfeited when you cancelled your participation in Rewards will not be credited to your Rewards account after you re-enroll. Any past negative Rewards point balance will still exist.
What happens to my outstanding reward redemptions that are still in progress when I cancel my participation?
You will receive any outstanding reward orders (valid orders that have been made prior to cancellation) that are in progress at the time you cancel your participation.
Why do you need the information required of me at enrollment?
We need to make sure you are the Chevy Chase Check Card customer. Providing this information is necessary should we need to communicate important program information that could affect your Rewards account. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call us at 301-987-BANK or 1-800-987-BANK (out of area).
