- Why did you choose a career at Chevy Chase Bank?
I can say it was my wife’s idea…since she worked at the Western Avenue branch in the '80s. But I tried it because I love working with people. I get a strong sense of satisfaction helping others using simple education. I like being there for people, and especially giving back to the University of Maryland community. - Why do you love being the Branch Manager on a university campus?
I love being able to help the students with all of their banking needs. It gives me great satisfaction when a student thanks me for helping them understand how a certain banking product can help them. - Which college or university did you attend and when did you graduate?
I attended University of Maryland. I was an Economics major, and graduated in 1987. I still see some of my old professors around campus—it’s great. - How did your college education prepare you for your career at Chevy Chase Bank?
Besides giving me a solid background in economics, it taught me how to relate to other people. And, since I work here on the campus I attended, I can talk freely with the students that come into the branch—not only about finances, but about college life in general. - What’s your favorite memory from college?
I’d have to say that it was the Maryland/Clemson game. Not sure what year it was, but we really put ourselves back on the map that day. Go Terps! - What advice would you give to current students?
Banking advice. No, seriously, I think it’s important to give students a firm understanding of banking in general. How to become more technologically responsible—like how to use the Chevy Chase Check Card and Online Banking. Students used to come in asking for pretty checks. Now they can bank from their dorm rooms. I also can tell them which professors to stay away from. Just kidding! - Why would you recommend students do their banking with Chevy Chase Bank?
I would say that we are the local experts in student banking—we have the best student checking account, and we are the most convenient bank. I have personally been helping students with all of their banking needs for over 14 years (between the College Park office and the University of Maryland office), and I will be their personal contact if they ever have any questions, comments or concerns that need to be addressed. - What is your favorite campus event to participate in?
The Stamp Student Union All-Niter. There is nothing more fun than giving away free cash to the students! - Where is your favorite place to eat on or nearby campus?
Marathon Deli in downtown College Park. My wife and I have been eating there since we first met on campus back in 1988. We still order the exact same thing as we did back when we were just dating. - What’s something fun that you want the students to know about you?
I met my wife here on campus. Actually, my in-laws also met while attending the University of Maryland, back in the 1950s. They actually met in the very same building that I work in. Also, I am a member of the University’s “Terrapin Club” and “Alumni Association.”
