You will be asked for your ABA Routing (or Transit) Numbers on your tax form, or by your tax preparation software. These numbers are found right on your checks. Look at the sample check to the right to find what each number on your check means.
Year-end interest-paid statements are required for doing taxes. These are also called IRS 1099 Forms. The interest you get from your accounts is actually viewed as income by the IRS, so it must be included when you prepare your taxes. The form should be automatically mailed to you by Chevy Chase Bank in late January. You should receive it by mid-February. If you don’t receive it, you can either call us at 301-987-BANK or 1-800-987-BANK, email us, or visit a branch and ask for one.
Should you need to find a specific transaction that you made, simply go to “Account Information” from the main menu. Then select “View Activity.” There, you’ll be able to select from the specific account you made the transaction from. “Type of Activity” lets you select if the transaction was a deposit, withdrawal, payment, or transfer. “Place of Activity” lets you select where it was placed—like at an ATM, at a branch, online, over the phone, or in a store. You can even select when the transaction was made, either through an open search, since your last statement, between certain dates, or in the last 1-65 days.
If you’re signed up for e-Statements, you can save time with finding the info you need for doing your taxes, including:
- View monthly statements online – Search for check images to verify expenses – viewable for up to 16 months.
- Search for check images to verify expenses – Search by check number, check amount, or date the check was written.
If you aren’t enrolled in e-Statements, or if you need a statement or check image more than 16 months old, contact us online, call us a 301-987-BANK or 1-800-987-BANK, or visit a branch. Statements and check images are maintained for seven years. Fees may apply.
